Creative Media Sector Session 1 - Games Companies
In this unit you will be going into deeper detail about the MEDIA INDUSTRIES. You won't be talking about individual products or target audiences or any of that malarkey. You're going to basically be building a kind of guide to the media industries - companies, jobs and professional practice - which we will tick off one by one. We'll start by looking at the GAMES INDUSTRY. Complete the first part by following these steps.
1. Open up a totally new blogpost (not a new blogsite - you can open up just a new post on the blogs you've already made). Give it the title 'CREATIVE MEDIA SECTOR - THE GAMES INDUSTRY'.
2. Put in the heading 'Multinational Company'.
Then choose a MULTI-NATIONAL games company. This can't be a small indie-games company - has to be one of the big-boys so choose something like EA, Rockstar. Get their logo in under the subheading.
3. Using your own research answer me these questions about that company.
- where are they based?
- do they have other headquarters around the world?
- where do they sell their products - all over the world or just US or EU or Japan?
- do they own any subsidiary media companies? Other smaller developers or TV stations or magazines?
- any other info you can find - how many people do they employ? How much profit/revenue do they make?
4. Put in the heading 'Independent Company'
Then choose an indie games company. This can't be a massive multi-national company. Get their logo in under the heading.
5. Using your own research answer me these questions about that company.
- where are they based
- what kind of SIZE are they? How many people work there? How much profit/turnover do they make?
6. Finally SAVE your post, you will be adding to it in coming weeks.
